As tax preparers in the 1960s, we were frustrated that the IRS provided tax tables for the 1040A only up to the $10,000 income level. The IRS provided a calculation schedule for the 1040, but Quickfinder tax pros invented the longer tax table for the 1040 form -- and saved their colleagues a lot of time and effort on the old hand-crank adding machines. The table went up to $33,018 in its first year -- tax year 1973.

The product that evolved into today's Quickfinder 1040 Handbook was first published as a small booklet featuring the complete tax table, primarily as an internal reference that was gradually sold to more and more tax professionals outside the firm. Over the years, it went through several title changes, and the number of articles grew until a full-time editorial staff was needed, and the company realized that this helpful tool and side business had grown to be our primary focus.

Quickfinder, designed and written by working tax professionals, filled a need in the tax and accounting industry with accurate and useful information, down-to-earth and concise writing, and a sense of humor that has helped us develop loyal and long-term customers. Our editors and staff members are happy to hear from customers who either stop by our booths at tradeshows or take a few minutes on the phone, to tell us how Quickfinder has helped them, how they've shared it with co-workers and friends in the industry, and how they've appreciated the comic relief of a Quickfinder cartoon in the middle of an overworked tax season.
