Our tax office is looking for new personal tax organizers. We have previously done our own in the office. We will continue to do our own separate business and farm organizers, but are looking for some suggestions on websites or companies to look at that provide generic personal tax organizers. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Click on "Quickfinder Products" at the top of this page, and order the 1040 Handbook. It comes with an excellent organizer, new each year, very complete and easy to read. Personalize the cover page and you are good to go.
We do receive the 1040 Handbook and we looked at the organizer they include with it. But our office sends out a separate organizer for the self-employed. We are looking for something that covers all personal areas of the return except Sch C. & Sch F.

I use the QF organizer, but add an additional page for Schedules C clients, and an additional page for rentals. I wouldn't send out an organizer with NO Schedule C questions, though, because in this economy you never know when a client will try a sideline or pick up some 1099 work during the year. I always follow-up the organizer with a phone or personal interview, so I can offer additional worksheets as needed.
Don't waste time on any organizer so general that it leaves out major categories of income. You could easily adapt the QF organizer to your specific needs with a pair of scissors and some tape.
