HP 2550n. I use it for everything now. But, I want to get a non-color HP with a smaller footprint by next tax season just for returns, something around 35 pages/minute. Then, I'll use the color HP for correspondence and everything else. I also have an HP L7780 for copying, faxing, reducing, etc., but it's not a laser. I finally gave my old HP LaserJet 4L to my husband; it prints beautifully but is slow. He also has an HP color all-in-one. We no longer have any of the Brothers we purchased; they just didn't last very long at all. I'm told there are good sales now for back-to-school events and then again prior/through the holiday season into the new year. So, you should have good luck finding what you need before you start printing 2008 returns.
Bought HP LaserJet 1160 about four seasons back and it is excellent. Very reliable and fast, B&W only, usage 3,500 - 4,000 copies per year. Never had a repair or maintenance issue. Cartridges approx $70, ($50-$60 on sale.)
It has performed excellently. Recently cost $400 to be serviced. Original cost was $1100. The newer version is HP 4250 or something like that. Office Depot and Staples had a HP P2015 printer on sale for about $280 which prints 27 pages per minuter but it ONLY has a USB input port, NOT what is attached to the end of my printer cable. This requires us to purchase another printer cable. You can find the USB printer adapter cable on ebay for around $7.00.
has a parallel input port so a USB cable is not needed. It is listed in a catalog as available via costco.com only at a price of $129.99 between 9-22-08 and 9-28-08 only delivered. That is about half the cost of an equivalant HP printer.
By used HP 40O0 SERIES PRINTERS FOR ABOUT $150.Have several offices work great cartridges about $65.00 for 6000 copies.Very little maintenance. Brother printers you need to replace tray every 15,000 copies adds to cost.
