does the 3 year statute of limitations for amended returns begin from the date that you actually filed the tax return or from the april 15th deadline date for filing a tax return.
i have a situation with a client who filed her 2005 tax return on 6/1/07 and i would like to amend it.

You can amend a return anytime, but you [your client] won't get any money back if the amendment is filed after the expiration of the statute of limitations, which ran out for your client's 2005 return on April 15, this year, unless she had an extension of time for filing her 2005 return.

Where can I find some info on this? Have a client with balance due on 1993 and 1994. In 1996 he had a big NOL. Are you saying I can amended those two returns?
